Oh no! Some of my favorite organic cosmetics are listed on the Organic Consumer Association' Personal Care Product Hazard list. Check out their spreadsheet to see how your products rank on a scale of 1-10 (Score Key: 0-2 = Low Hazard / Green; 3-6 = Moderate Hazard/Yellow; 7-10 = High Hazard/Red). Brands listed include some of my favorites:
Not all of their products are hazardous, just some of them. For example, the Kiss My Face shaving cream I use isn't listed, but their foaming face wash is.
BUT, just because the OCA is being tough on companies claiming to be organic, doesn't make the big corporations any less guilty. Do you want mercury in your mascara? lead in your lipstick? Phaylates in your baby care products?
Check out the database of all companies to see if the products you rub all over your face & body, inside your mouth, under your arms and in your hair cause cancer or other terrible things. Just to name a few of the guilty brands, in no particular order:
Is clipping a Proctor & Gamble coupon really worth it to save a few bucks, then getting an even larger bill for Chemotherapy? Or do you splurge to use safe products on your body now to prevent cancer and other illnesses for you and your family? If we all splurged now, we would drive up demand and drive down costs.
