Apparently the 2009 Minnesota State Fair was the best-attended in the history of the event with 1,790,497 visitors. I just KNOW you want to go with us next year. If my pig photos and videos on Facebook aren't enough to entice you, here are some other highlights from "2009's Twelve Days of Fun Ending Labor Day" (including Princess Kay of the Milky Way's head carved in butter -see inset):
- Food vendors served up more than 500 different foods, 70 of which were on-a-stick, including deep-fried Norwegian banana splits, Fry Dogs, pot roast sundaes, Texas steak dinner on-a-stick, peach glazed pig cheeks, sunfish filets, Swedish meatballs and gravy, Tornado Potatoes, chocolate-covered watermelon and caprese salad on-a-stick.
- The Miracle of Birth Center was the birthplace of 170 baby animals including 125 piglets, 12 calves and 33 lambs, not to mention dozens of chicks and ducklings.
- More than 90,000 people attended Grandstand shows. The Kid Rock & Lynyrd Skynyrd, and REO Speedwagon, STYX & 38 Special shows both sold out. Wow.
- My Alma mater, Rosemount High School, won the marching band competition.
